Knowing the Odds in Blackjack- Part 2

Another average you should know with the game of blackjack is if the dealer shows an immediate Ace card, what is the chance that he or she has a 10 waiting in the show for a blackjack? This is also an easily calculated odd in the game of blackjack. The dealer has a 31% chance of a 10 in this situation. You need to remember that working with probability and odds is something that you are going to get good at when you are wagering at the blackjack table. The game isn’t like a traditional game of luck where you just “see what you get.” Rather, this is a game that has a strategy to it and you can calculate your own odds in any situation if you know the elements involved. It is always good to know the odds because that lets you know what moves are going to be the most beneficial to you and what situations you should look for most readily. For example, in the above scenario where the dealer has an Ace showing, you know that there is a high chance of a 10 coming down out of the shoe. This means that you don’t have a good odd of winning at this point. You can make your wagers more conservative in this situation to accommodate the change in odds that is no longer in your own favor.

If you start card counting, you can seriously change the odds too. If you do start card counting, what kind of edge do you really have though? The answer is about a 1% edge over the House. That is a startling number for many a card counter to realize. Knowing the skill isn’t really a huge benefit. The thing about card counting is that there is still an element of luck to it. You can gauge what the moves most beneficial are, but you still are going to be working with a number of external elements that can change what you work with. In the game of blackjack you can work on your strategy but you are still going to have to contend with luck. It is a frustrating thing, but it also can work the opposite way and bring you a great unexpected win too.
