One of the newest changes in the market for the US is the continued debates over whether or not to legalize gambling. Gaming is a billion- dollar business and even if you aren’t a gambler you know the benefits it brings to the market. If a small casino can bring in just a few million dollars every month, that means the state it is operating in has a benefit of hundreds-of-dollars every month too. This is exactly what states need right now because of their post-recessionary economy. Most states have huge deficits to deal with and are at a loss when it comes to maintaining their overall budgets for the coming fiscal years. This is the reason why so many legilators are open to creating gambling plans that will help them to bring in the money needed. Montana has long held out on the issue though. The state’s leglsiators were against it for the majority, despite what it could do for the economy. Recently there was a new bill introduced that would legalize live blackjack gaming in the state. The proposal was that the state would allow it to pass and then use the money for the care of people with disabilities. Blackjack remains a popular activity for millions of gamers in the state and could potentially bring in millions of extra revenue for them to work with in the coming months and years.
The bill however, was quickly shot down. The senate voted it out at 13-to-6. There were two side to the issue and both voiced their opinions. On one side, pro-blackjack activists stated that they believed it would be a positive move to help revive the bar and casino markets in the state. Since smoking has been banned from both locations their numbers are seriously declining. Bringing in legalized blackjack could be a great addition to their overall revenue potential and help save the businesses. The market is suffering- just like every other US state- and having a way to spur in some additional revenue is something that almost every legislator is willing to at minimum look at. Not this time though- legislators were strict in their viewpoints on the new bill. They believe that it is a gambling expansion push masquerading as a social fund bill and weren’t having any of it.
